1 injured in tractor trailer crash on I-95 in Christiana, Delaware

CHRISTIANA, Del. - February 17, 2014

The accident happened around 2:20 a.m. Monday on the northbound lanes of I-95 in Christiana.

Police say 22-year-old Najee Rogers drove a 2000 Buick LeSabre north on I-95 at a high rate of speed.

Rogers lost control of the vehicle and drove into the rear of a northbound 2012 Freightliner tractor-trailer, lodging under the rear trailer portion of the vehicle.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Richard Lyvers, 29, of Springfield, Kentucky, felt the impact and drove the trailer from the right-center lane to the right shoulder.

Rescue personnel responded to the scene and found the Buick still lodged under the tractor trailer.

It took around a half hour for crews to rescue Rogers from his vehicle.

He was transported by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in critical condition with a head injury.

Lyvers was not injured.

There were lane closures on northbound I-95 for approximately three hours as this crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash remains under investigation.
