Officials: Port Authority should apologize for NJ traffic mess

NEW YORK - February 19, 2014

A member of the board of commissioners, William "Pat" Schuber, proposed the idea Wednesday.

The agency's new Special Oversight Committee gathered in Manhattan as part of the authority's monthly meeting.

Commissioner Scott Rechler and committee vice chairman Richard Bragger embraced the idea.

Rechler told those assembled: "We're sorry."

The committee was created after a Christie appointee to the agency ordered lanes near the George Washington Bridge closed in an alleged act of political retribution. The official, David Wildstein, has since resigned.

PA Chairman David Samson has been subpoenaed in relation to the bridge probe. He remains in the position. Samson was tight-lipped on Wednesday.
