Suspect identified in North Philadelphia bar shootout

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - February 25, 2014

It was 1:56 a.m. on Sunday, February 23rd when police were called to the 1600 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue for the report of a shooting.

Arriving officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was transported to Hahnemann Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

According to police, two males who were exiting the Let Out Bar, located on the block, when one of them allegedly said he was going to get his gun. Police say he then retrieved a firearm from a 2004 Chevrolet and approached the bar.

Security guards saw the man approaching with the gun and a shootout commenced.

The victim was injured by gunfire from one of the two suspects, police say.

However, one of the suspects sustained a wound to his knee by return fire from the security guards.

The injured suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle westbound on Cecil B. Moore towards 18th Street. The vehicle was later found in a loading zone outside the Emergency Room at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The 38-year-old suspect was arrested at the hospital and charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault and related charges.

Police say the second suspect, 32-year-old Jermill Edwards, remains at large.
