Glass-smashing burglary suspect identified in South Philadelphia

Police are on the hunt for a glass-smashing burglary suspect targeting businesses in Philadelphia and Delaware County.

Investigators believe Devon Powell is behind at least a half dozen burglaries since January.

They say Powell, who has a history of escape and assault on police, is known to have thrown bricks and rocks through the front door glass of businesses in South Philadelphia in order to enter and burglarize them.

He is wanted in connection with several burglaries in Yeadon, plus the following burglaries in Philadelphia:

  • 1/12/14 5:11 a.m. at Hawthorne's Restaurant, 738 S 11th Street
  • 2/1/14 6:11 a.m. at the 19 Degrees Cafe, 1847 S 19th Street
  • 2/9/14 11:41 p.m. at Randazzo's Pizza, 1826 South Street
  • 2/17/14 1:26 a.m. at Santucci's Pizza, 901 S 10th Street
  • 2/17/14 6:10 a.m. at Bainbridge Street Barrel House, 625-627 S 6th Street
  • 2/17/14 8:18 a.m. at Ulivo Restaurant, 521 Catharine Street

    Powell, who investigators believe is homeless and may be a substance abuser, is described as 49 years old, 5'11" tall, and 170 lbs.

    He has been seeing wearing a hooded, dark colored jacket, blue jeans and white high-top sneakers. He wears prescription eyeglasses with gold frames and is known to operate a dark colored mountain bike.
