Police tell Action News it was around 12:30 a.m. when they received 911 calls reporting gunfire on the 900 block of North Delaware Avenue, near the SugarHouse Casino and the Roxxy Night Club.
Witnesses informed arriving officers that a group of males was standing on the corner of Delaware Avenue and Ellen streets when a vehicle passed and a single gunshot was heard.
The vehicle then allegedly turned around and began traveling southbound in the wrong direction on Delaware Avenue, approaching the group at the intersection.
Witnesses say that's when one of the males in the group began firing a handgun in the direction of vehicle.
The vehicle took off south on Delaware Avenue and was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle.
Both the driver and passenger attempted to flee the scene on foot, but witnesses managed to hold the passenger until police arrived. They say he was the one who fired the initial shot.
The suspect was transported to Episcopal Hospital for treatment from of non-life threatening injuries sustained in the accident.
The shooter from the group fled the scene east on Ellen Street.
The investigation is ongoing.
