Motorcyclist killed in Newark, Delaware crash

Delaware State Police are investigating an accident that killed a motorcyclist over the weekend in Newark.

The crash occurred around 8:40 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of East Chestnut Hill Road and South Kingston Road.

Police say a 2004 Honda CBR motorcycle was travelling eastbound in the right lane of East Chestnut Hill Road when it collided with a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup, which was turning left from the westbound lane of East Chestnut Hill Road onto South Kingston Road.

The operator of the Honda, identified as 39-year-old Victor A. Cruz of Elkton, Maryland, was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the roadway.

While lying in the roadway, Cruz was struck by an oncoming 2003 Honda CRV traveling eastbound on East Chestnut Hill Road.

Cruz was transported to Christiana Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Police say he was not wearing a helmet.

Police are continuing to investigate, but at this time no charges have been filed.
