Police say 16-year-old Nakyra Newson, of the 3500 block of North Marshall Street, was reported missing by her mother when she did not come home from school on Monday.
The teen's mother said she received a call from her daughter around 3:00 p.m. saying she was on her way home, and that she was taking a Route 19 SEPTA bus with a friend.
Investigators say the teen and her friend were last seen together on a Route 23 SEPTA bus going southbound at Broad and Erie. Police say the teen was seen exiting the bus, but her friend continued on to her home.
Investigators say there have been no activity on any of her social media accounts and her cell phone has been turned off.
Her mother says she has never gone missing before.
Nakyra Newson is described as 5'9" tall, around 285 pounds with blonde hair. She was last seen wearing black jeans, a grey and black sweatshirt, a navy button up hooded sweater, carrying a cream colored bag with puppies on it.
