Police: Elderly man targeted in Chester home invasion

CHESTER, Pa. - April 17, 2014

The home invasion robbery happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home in 1700 block of Modesto Circle in Chester - an area typically known as a quiet neighborhood.

Police say two male bandits in their 20's wearing hoodies got in by knocking on the front door. Armed with handguns the pair used duct tape to tie up 86-year-old Willard Richan and a lady friend.

Two vehicles were stolen from the driveway - a Toyota and a Honda.

Richan, who apparently suffered no physical injuries, is refusing interview requests.

Police say they were targeted. The attack came just fifteen minutes after the couple returned to the home.

Neighbors in Chester's quiet, fashionable Nova Vista development on the east are stunned.

John Mclemore lives nearby. "Very disturbing thing. My wife and I are both very upset by it. We feel certainly sorry for Will and hope that he comes out of this OK."

Richan's fellow residents on Modesto Circle in this city's first ward describe him as a good neighbor who does a lot of community service work to help the poor.

If you can help in the investigation you are urged to contact Chester Police.
