Arrest warrant issued in Collingdale hit-and-run

COLLINGDALE, Pa. - April 22, 2014

Authorities say 37-year-old Conroy Williams of Philadelphia, is the owner of the Ranger Rover that was involved in the incident.

His last known address is 219 N. Robinson Street in Philadelphia.

Williams is facing a list of charges including criminal attempted murder and aggravated assault.

The hit-and-run occurred just before 5:30 a.m. Saturday on the 900 block of Bedford Avenue in Collingdale.

Friends and neighbors have identified the victim as 36-year-old Joel Witherspoon.

"I came outside and a car was backing into my car and sped off and when I got outside, my neighbor was laying on the ground. He was just asking for help," Stacey Dennis said.

Investigators say Williams was driving a black Range Rover and waited at the end of a dead-end street.

Witherspoon was standing next to his white Cadillac, in front of his home, when police say Williams sped down the block and struck him with the SUV.

The Range Rover hit several cars before slamming head on into neighbor James Williams' Chrysler 300.

"I'm just hoping and praying that my friend, my neighbor Joel, pulls through. That's what I'm concerned about more than my car right now because he don't deserve this. He's a good guy," said Williams.

Police say Williams then jumped into another vehicle which had a female driver.

"The victim was, we believe to be, an ex-boyfriend of the female. The owner of the Range Rover, we were told, has a child with the female," Collingdale Police Chief Bob Adams said.

Chief Adams says his officers have responded to domestic calls to Witherspoon's home in the past and someone even recently vandalized the victim's Cadillac.

Witherspoon suffered two broken legs and head injuries. He was last reported to be in critical condition at Crozer Chester Medical Center.

Action News has learned that he was once part of a popular rap duo called Philly's Most Wanted. The group had several hits back in 2000.

Witherspoon's mother says now he's a father and a businessman who remodels homes.

Anyone with information on Williams' whereabouts is asked to call Collingdale Police at 610-565-6500 or 911.
