Man, 28, charged with attempted murder in confrontation with Camden Co. police

CAMDEN, N.J. - April 26, 2014

It happened just before 10:00 p.m. Friday.

Prosecutors say four Camden County police officers responded to 7th and Sycamore Streets in Camden at 9:52 p.m. after receiving a report of a man with a gun in Chestnut Court.

When they arrived, the officers say they were confronted by 28-year-old James Dickerson of Camden.

According to investigators, Dickerson drew a weapon and fired several shots at the officers.

All four returned fire, hitting Dickerson once in the leg.

He was taken to Cooper University and is now listed in stable condition.

The Camden County prosecutor announced Saturday that Dickerson is being charged with four counts of Attempted Murder and weapons offenses.

He will be transferred to the Camden County Jail when he is medically cleared.
