Springfield gas leak prompts shopping center evacuation

A gas leak prompted the brief evacuation of several businesses in a strip mall in Springfield, Delaware County Thursday morning.

It was shortly after 10:30 a.m. that a gas line began leaking in the vicinity of 443 Baltimore Pike.

According to authorities, a Water Department crew doing work in the vicinity struck a small gas line.

The Stoney Creek Shopping Center was evacuated for a time.

However, since then crews began ventilating the area and people have been allowed back into the businesses.

No injuries have been reported.
