It appears that one recent demonstration of a new car's safety features didn't go as planned. Video shows a Volvo XC60 accelerating toward a group of people while the car was supposed to be demonstrating new pedestrian detection and auto-braking systems.

The video, posted to YouTube by the Dominican Republic-based blog Remolacha, was originally billed as a "self-parking car accident." The car can be seen backing up, stopping, and then accelerating into the group of people watching, hitting at least one person and causing the rest to scatter.

But a spokesperson for Volvo says the video was mislabeled. Rather than attempting to self-park, Johan Larsson told Fusion that the video appears to be a demonstration of the vehicle's pedestrian detection and auto-braking functions.

There was just one problem -- the vehicle does not appear to have the pedestrian detection function, according to Larsson. The safety feature does not come standard on the XC60.

"It appears as if the car in this video is not equipped with Pedestrian detection," Larsson told Fusion. "This is sold as a separate package."

Two men hit by the car were bruised, but OK, according to the video caption. Larsson says that even if the car was equipped with the pedestrian detection feature, that the driver likely would have interfered with the system and "Volvo Cars strongly recommends to never perform tests towards real humans."
