Young inventors learn how to become tech entrepreneurs
WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Some middle school girls are already becoming little business women and learning just what it takes to get a startup off the ground.
They jumped right into the Dolphin Pool - a friendlier version of the ABC hit show, "Shark Tank."
But don't let the smiles and giggles fool you. For the last week these 11 to 14-year-olds have been learning how to start their own tech businesses.
Their projects range from sports to gaming to saving animals.
On Friday, they got the chance to stand in front of real-life investors at Drexel University's ExCITE Center.
"We've learned how to do an elevator pitch. I think that was pretty fun," said Sophie Garrar from Fort Washington, Pennsylvania.
Brianna Ellis from West Philadelphia also enjoyed the experience: "We have learned a lot about business and working with other people on a big project."
"I learned a lot about marketing strategies to get the word out and interact with the people who buy your product who eventually become loyal customers because you stay active with them," said Emma Stanley from Woolwich Twp., New Jersey.
The goal of camp is to teach these girls the basic tools of being a tech entrepreneur and help connect them with other tech girls like themselves, and in the end - everyone got a backer.
