SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A stretch of Broad Street in South Philadelphia was renamed this weekend to honor one of the city's longtime public servants.

The 1200 block of Broad between Federal and Wharton Streets is now known as "Anna Verna Way."

The sign was unveiled Saturday.

Verna was the city's first female city council president.

She also held that position longer than anyone from 1999 until 2011.
