FOX CHASE (WPVI) -- Philadelphia Police have charged a 24-year-old man in connection with a crash in Fox Chase that left an 84-year-old woman in extremely critical condition.

24-year-old Joseph Bradley of the 1500 block of Wayside Road is charged with Aggravated Assault while Driving Under the Influence, Aggravated Assault by Motor Vehicle and related offenses.

The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. Monday on the 8000 block of Pine Road.

Police say the victim was crossing the street when she was struck by a silver Chevrolet Malibu sedan.

According to authorities, the 24-year-old driver parked a short distance from where the victim was hit.

While police were investigating, he returned to the scene. He told the officers he called 911 after the crash and thought he had hit a deer.

He was taken into custody for further investigation.

The victim was taken to Aria - Jefferson Health's Torresdale facility by medics in critical condition.

There was damage to the Chevy's windshield, and a walker could be seen on the side of the street.

Neighbors said the victim was likely on her daily trip to the nearby Dunkin Donuts, which opens at 4 a.m.
