VIDEO: Private school in Princeton files for bankruptcy
The American Boychoir School in Princeton will be singing a sour note unless $350,000 can be raised to save their school from closing.

PRINCETON, N.J. (WPVI) -- The voices of students at the American Boychoir School in Princeton may sound sweet, but the school's finances are hitting a sour note.

The school has declared bankruptcy and unless administrators can raise $350,000 to keep things going, the private boarding school for 4th to 8th grade boys, will be forced to end the school year about a month early.

"We don't have a large bank account, a large endowment team to help us - we depend on our supporters and people who love music," said Kerry Hiemann, school president.

School officials have appealed to parents and benefactors to contribute and some students have suggested asking award-winning singer Taylor Swift for help.

"Yes I would like her help us - why? Because our school needs her help to survive," said David Zara, student.

Other students have suggested asking billionaire Bill Gates.

"Bill Gates is a rich man. I know he donates to education and I know he wants to see children follow their dreams," said Kevin Byrne, student.

50 students attend American Boychoir, where tuition starts at over $22,000 a year.

The concert choir travels nationally and internationally but income from those performances doesn't cover costs.

So far the school has been able to raise $140,000 but it's still not enough to keep the school from closing early.

"Most of us are really sad if the school closes down and we love to sing and I know people around the world love to hear us sing," said Andy Boateng, student.

The American Boychoir School is hoping those voices won't be silenced because of money problems.
