The York, Pa. Suburban School district is considering allowing students to be stripped searched.

A central Pennsylvania school district is looking to update its student search policy, but some parents say it's too invasive.

The York Suburban School District is considering a policy that would allow students to be strip searched.

Pennsylvania state law allows school staff to search students if they are believed to have something illegal or dangerous.

The district wants to adopt that state law.

That would include lockers, cars, electronics, purses, backpacks and the removal of clothing and searching underneath clothes if a threat exist.

Some parents say they are not okay with this.

"If it's a credible threat the cops should be called in if the search should be done. Then, if something was detected, then it would be okay but just doing it off of hearsay? I don't think teachers should be put in that position," said Steven Moon of York.

"If they are going to do that kind of search I would think it would be severe enough to call law enforcement," said Karen Levan of York.

The superintendent of the York Suburban School District told ABC affiliate WHTM that putting the state law into their policy will "protect student rights."

The school board will vote on the new policy later this week.
