GRAYS FERRY (WPVI) -- Parents and students arrived to Universal Alcorn Charter School in the Grays Ferry section of Philadelphia on Thursday, but soon turned right back around.

A school spokesperson explained they learned the boiler wasn't working properly Wednesday morning, affecting hot water and heat in the school.

The principal arrived to school early Thursday morning and made the decision to close for the day for the safety of the students.

Phone and text alerts went out that school would be closed, but not everyone heard there was no class.

Crews were out on school grounds making repairs as children returned home.

By late morning, the school said the boiler system was once again fully operable. School will resume on Monday.
