NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia School District has launched a new initiative to improve student attendance.

#AttendanceHero was introduced Tuesday morning at John F. Hartranft school in North Philadelphia.

The initiative includes radio PSAs and robocalls from Mayor Jim Kenney and Philadelphia athletes, encouraging students to go to school and learn.

The first-ever #AttendanceHero award was presented to Zydeek Perez- a fifth grader who has had perfect attendance since first grade.
