VIDEO: Student gets detention for sharing lunch
Sharing didn't earn one California 8th grader praise, but rather detention.

Sharing didn't earn one California 8th grader praise, but rather detention.

It all started after Kyle Bradford got a chicken burrito for lunch in the school cafeteria.

His friend had a cheese sandwich but didn't like it.

Kyle, who is 13, said he wasn't hungry, but his friend was...so he shared.

Kyle said if he didn't it was just going to end up in the garbage anyway.

The school disciplined him, with a detention note saying the policy is no sharing of food.

The school cites food allergies and stands by their policy that "because of safety and liability, we cannot allow students to actually exchange meals."
