Actress fools social media with fake engagement

A Hollywood actress had the internet buzzing when she announced her unexpected engagement on social media.

But this story is proof that posts can be deceiving.

Former "90210" star Jessica Lowndes first teased her followers with cryptic posts. She talked about having a new man in her life, and showed off a massive engagement ring.

Lowndes then showed a visibly older hand placed on her leg - along with the comment "haters gonna hate."

Fans were stunned when she told everyone the lucky man in her life was actor Jon Lovitz - who happens to be 30 years older than her.

Right after the posts went viral, Lowndes revealed the whole thing was a publicity stunt.

Turns out, she's not engaged but was instead promoting her new music video starring - you guessed it - Jon Lovitz.
