VIDEO: Attorney: Beanie Sigel not target of shooting
Rapper Beanie Sigel was critically injured in a shooting on Friday.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (WPVI) -- The long-time attorney for rapper Beanie Sigel's family said the performer was not the intended target of a shooting on Friday morning at his home in Pleasantville, New Jersey.

The shooting happened around 9 a.m. in the 800 block of Spruce Avenue.

Attorney Fortunato Perri, Jr. talked to Action News after speaking with Sigel's family.

He says, according to the family, Sigel had just come back home after dropping his kids off at school when he was shot twice in the stomach.

Sigel was not the intended target, Perri said. Sigel was rushed to the hospital with what is described as a life-threatening injury.

There was no word on a suspect or motive in this shooting.

There were earlier reports a second person was shot. However, police now say another person was located with minor injuries after what appeared to be a scuffle.

That person has refused treatment and, police say, has not been cooperating with the investigation.

Beanie Sigel is no stranger to trouble.

Sigel was moved from federal prison to a halfway house in August after serving a two-year tax-evasion sentence and then released to home confinement in September.

In 2006, Sigel was shot in the arm in Philadelphia.
