FRANKLIN SQUARE (WPVI) -- We know the holiday season is really gearing up in Philadelphia because they've been kicking off the Franklin Square Holiday Festival Thursday night with what they're calling an Electrical Spectacle.

More than 50,000 LED lights illuminate the square at 6th and Race to the sounds of holiday classics performed by the Philly POPS.

A 12-foot tall kite flies 16 feet above the fountain, a tribute to Benjamin Franklin.

And this year, the Franklin Square Holiday Festival is offering even more ways to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.

"People said they wanted to spend more time in Franklin Square so we added a lot of attractions that will allow them to spend more time," Amy Needle of Historic Philadelphia said.

There is a winter beer garden with outdoor fire pits and a warming tent, more food choices, and an outdoor market with local artists selling their works.

6abc is to proud partner with Historic Philadelphia to bring you the Franklin Square Holiday Festival this year.

6abc General Manager Bernie Prazenica was on hand to help kick off the fun.

The show runs every half hour from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. every night through December 31st.
