It's come to light that "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm was the target of criminal charges back in his college days.

Hamm was accused of taking part in violent fraternity hazing at the University of Texas.

A 1991 lawsuit was filed in Austin.

A Sigma Nu pledge said the Emmy-nominated actor set his jeans on fire, shoved his face in dirt and hit him with a paddle.

Criminal records show Hamm was charged with hazing and received probation.

He left the school the same semester as the hazing.

The fraternity chapter was permanently banned.
