March 8th, 2015 (WPVI) -- In the late 1980's, the movie was a Hollywood box office sensation. Now the musical is enjoying similar success, selling out shows in Europe and Australia. Philadelphia is one of its first stops in the US.

The coming of age tale follows the life of Baby, a teenage girl who develops a crush on a dance instructor while vacationing with her family in the Catskill Mountains.

"You take that journey with Baby to go from an inexperienced teenager in a lot of different ways to sort of becoming a woman and learning how to dance and learning a lot of other things too," says Frances Egler, Director of Broadway Philadelphia Programming.

Egler says the musical delivers all of your favorite scenes, music and choreography from the movie with favorite hits like "Do you Love Me?" and "The Time of my Life" performed live on stage.

"The movie is definitely there, all your favorite parts, the lift, everything is on stage but there is additional music and scenes and characters that they wanted to have in the film and just ended up not being added. So this is an even bigger vision of Dirty Dancing."

Egler says people all over the world love the show, and the movie's iconic scene of Baby's lift tends to bring live audiences to their feet.

"It's a lot of fun in that the leads are amazing dancers and you basically see some of the original choreography that you would know from the screen but also it's reimagined for the stage," says Egler, "You're not only getting the songs you know, but performed live and then some great, great fun energetic dancing."
