September 11, 2015 -- Shakespeare is coming to the Sedgwick Theater in Mount Airy this fall, and it's Romeo and Juliet, one of the bard's most beloved love stories of all time.
The Quintessence Theatre Group is putting on the show of one of fiction's most famous star crossed lovers.
"Romeo and Juliet, I think, is ultimately the greatest romantic tragedy. It's a play that will accept the power of love both in terms of how it can create amazing things and also destroy things," says Alexander Burns, Artist Director of Quintessence Theatre, who says the troupe hopes this production will leave audience members thinking.
"It's a play that looks at the power of love both in terms of how it can both create amazing things and also destroy things, the way it can bring people together and also tear them apart."
"It's a cautionary tale not to lose yourself in someone else or your passions you need some moderation," says Connor Hammond who plays the role of Romeo.
The Quintessence Theatre Group hopes to make Shakespeare's epic words come to life, "Shakespeare was the greatest writer for the theatre of all time and he knew how to make words work in the theater in a way that has never quite been transcended," says Burns, "and Romeo and Juliet has really the most spectacular poetry ever written."
To up the excitement, the theatre group is bringing in America Fight Master Ian Rose to choreograph all of the fight scenes. "People who want to sort of go on a wild full throttle sort of adventure ride full of romance and passion and violence will be very excited by this Romeo and Juliet," says Burns.
Romeo and Juliet will be at the Sedgwick Theater from Sept 30th through November 7th. You can find tickets and show times at www.QuintessenceTheatre.org.
