Wentzville, Mo. (WPVI) -- Police in Missouri got creative in their search for a lost toddler's parents.

The 2-year-old girl wandered away from her Wentzville home on Tuesday afternoon with the family dog by her side.

Police officers and neighbors started knocking on doors trying to find the little girl's parents.

"She just kept saying, 'Mom.' She wanted mommy that was it. We're all trying to wrack our brains on how to get this little girl home," said

With the help of animal control, police officers scanned the dog's microchip, which led them to the child's house.

The girl had only been gone for about 30 minutes.

Her parents were unaware that the child was missing.

They thought she was still taking a nap.
