PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Delaware County native is asking for everyone's help in finding the nurse who saved his father's life at the Philadelphia International Airport.

It all began around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 1st.

Dave Shafer tells Action News that he had just retired from the U.S. Army and was having a celebration with his family in Texas.

His father, who is from Marcus Hook, was in the airport with Shafer's stepmom, Mary Lou, when he went for a walk by himself.

"My dad got up to go get a cup of coffee, when he didn't come back she got a little worried," said Dave.

Then, near Terminal D, Dave's father suffered a massive heart attack and fell to the floor.

Dave said his father's heart stopped and he apparently died.

Incredibly, an off-duty nurse happened to be nearby. That nurse grabbed an airport defibrillator and shocked Dave's father back to life.

"I strongly believe that without that RN - I don't know if my dad would have made it," said Dave.

Paramedics arrived and rushed him to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. After a month of recovery, Dave's father - also named Dave - was released from the hospital on August 30th.

But, despite weeks of searching, Dave's family still does not know who that nurse was. It is not even known if that person was a man or woman.

All they know is an incident report from the airport described the nurse's actions.

So now, Dave is asking everyone in the Philadelphia area for any clues about that nurse's identity.

"Thank you, first of all and foremost, that can't even come close to my gratitude. I just want to personally be able to thank them and welcome them to the family," said Dave.
