VIDEO: City officials say Philadelphia wage tax refunds are delayed
If you haven't received your tax refund from the city of Philadelphia, you aren't alone.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- If you haven't received your tax refund from the city of Philadelphia, you aren't alone.

When we file our taxes, we all want our refund checks as soon as possible.

However, a number of people have contacted Action News asking why they have not yet received their Philadelphia wage tax refunds.

Erin on Facebook tells us, "We have not received our Philly one, and we filed in March."

Olga says, "I have not received my check and I filed late March. What is going on?"

And Francis says, "I filed early April. The city claims my check will be mailed June 11." But we talked to Francis this week and he has still not received his check.

We contacted the city of Philadelphia's Revenue department and officials confirm the city is indeed running behind.

The city tells Action News the delay is due to additional refund requests.

Apparently "a change in the BIRT (business income tax) has generated an increase in refund requests" and that's affecting wage tax refunds.

The city promises it has allocated additional staff and expects individuals to receive refunds within the next several weeks.

If you're waiting for your refund, send us a post on Action News reporter Nydia Han's Facebook page when you get your check or if the wait continues.
