What's more romantic than saving money?
OK, national retailers may or may not be your ideal way to spend their Valentine's date, but for the rest of the day (and the weekend), plenty of stores are offering sweet romance-inspired promotions. From discounts to deals to social media campaigns, these will have everyone -- single or otherwise -- sharing the love.
Starbucks
What: $5 drink-dessert pairings

The coffee giant is offering perfect drink-dessert pairings for $5 in a promo they're calling the "World's largest Starbucks date." The options are: Caffe Verona coffee press for two with a Double Chocolate Chunk Brownie, Tall Flat White with a Chocolate Croissant and Grande Raspberry Mocha, or White Chocolate Mocha with a Heart Cookie.
The company's also offering a $20 gift card to anyone who signs up for Match.com through the event page.
McDonald's
What: Free meals for random customers
When: Feb. 2-Feb. 14
"Your payment today will be: Tell me what you love about your son."
McDonald's is picking up the tab for randomly selected patrons willing to complete a random act of kindness.
Qdoba
What: Buy one get one free burritos, for lovers
When: Feb. 14
Pucker up: Qdoba is offering BOGO burritos to anyone willing to kiss someone in line with them. Whether it's a partner, a friend or a total stranger, it makes no difference to them.
Steak 'n Shake
What: Free Valentine's shake with gift card
When: Through March 31
With the purchase of a gift card of at least $10, Steak 'n Shake is offering free Valentine's Day shakes. No rush, though. This deal lasts through March.
Waffle House
What: A fancy dinner at a Waffle House
When: Feb. 14
For the eighth straight year, Waffle House is getting fancy, complete with candles, table cloths and waiters dressed for the occasion. Though it's not technically a discount, the idea of getting a fancy dinner without having to pay fancy dinner prices is pretty appealing.

Buca di Beppo

The Italian eatery is offering appropriately shaped pasta as part of its discounted Valentine's Day menu. Speaking of discounts, the restaurant is offering a separate deal on to-go orders.
TGI Fridays
What: Half-price wine, $50 gift card for sharing your story
When: Valentine's week
You could win a $50 gift card from the restaurant for sharing your love story ... or why you're happy to be single. They're also offering half-price wine all week.
