VIDEO: Turn trash into cash
Be careful what you call junk.

Just about everyone has a junk drawer. But be careful what you call junk, because it turns out some of your so-called trash can be cold hard cash.

Statistics show American's have about 15 billion unused gadgets - from computers to chargers to old cell phones.

Paul Vertrano, owner of the Select Salvage Company website, says selling these things individually won't get you much, but you can often sell a whole bucket or bin to salvage dealers like him, or on ebay or Craigslist.

For the CDs, Vertrano recommends downloading the music and selling the hard copies to music stores, either in person or online. You can get up to $1 each.

If you have old video games, VHS tapes, movies or TV shows, you can get up to $2 a tape either from those salvage dealers or you can post them yourselves online.

And finally, if you have a collection of something - like say pins or figurines, or playbills - he recommends you sell them as a group rather than individually to increase their value, and you save time in posting each item.
