The summer heat is on and if you have been cranking up your AC, your energy bills could be spiking too.

The summer heat is on and if you have been cranking up your AC, your energy bills could be spiking too.

Statistics show the average American family spends about $400 to keep their house cool between June and August.

However, there are some new gadgets out to help you bring those bills down.

The ThinkEco Smart AC kit connects to your air conditioning unit to make it smarter and save you money.

It allows you to control your air conditioning unit from your smartphone, which really comes in handy if you forget to turn it up or off.

Some energy companies hand them out for free.

They even use them to remotely raise the temperature on your AC by up to three degrees to help them manage demand and prevent blackouts.

Meanwhile, the NEST thermostat system lets you control your central air.

Direct Energy will soon be offering rebates on The Nest in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
