VIDEO: Walmart app compares prices for you
Walmart has introduced a new app that claims to put money in your pocket if there's a better deal elsewhere.

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Walmart has a reputation for low prices. But how can you be sure you're getting the best deal if you shop there?

The discount giant has introduced a new app that claims to put money in your pocket if there's a better deal elsewhere. It's called Savings Catcher. And once you check out of the store, it begins checking out prices.

South Philadelphia Walmart Co-Manager Rasheen Aden explains, "After tiy;re finished your purchase, you'll get a receipt. And what you do is you scan the app on the bottom of the receipt and what will happen is you'll get the lowest competitive price throughout the demographics."

And if the app finds a local competitor has a better current advertised price on anything you've bought, you get the difference back.

Aden says, "What'll happen is you get an eGift card. You can print that out, bring it in store, and go shopping."

Or, you can let those eGift cards add up and put them toward a major purchase at a later date. And the list of items covered by the Savings Catcher is a long one, over 80,000 items, including groceries, office supplies, health and beauty and more.

It takes about three days from the time you scan your receipt until you get an email that will either tell you the amount of your gift card, or tell you that there are no cheaper prices elsewhere.
