PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- For some people, there's no sweeter way to start your day than a donut. Philadelphia has a pair that is hand-making their confections every day.

Jeff Poleon and Matt Quinn are in their Southwest Philly Kitchen making donuts.

They are the owners of Dottie's Donuts and they work every night and all night baking.

Jeff says, They are "full nocturnal at this point."

It is a 2 man operation, making hundreds of donuts and different flavors each night.

They've created more than 50 flavors in all.

"We do as much fresh fruit as we possibly can and then we add more depth of flavor to the glaze. We do freeze dried fruit in combination with the fresh fruit," says Jeff.

No matter what the flavor, the donuts are all vegan.

"So we use coconut milk and egg replacer, but other than that, you wouldn't even know they're vegan," said Matt.

They also use a vegan shortening made out of palm oil.

Jeff and Matt met while working at Blackbird, a vegan pizzeria. And that's where they realized that Philly had a dining niche that needed filling.

"Vegans here in Philadelphia are actually kind of spoiled. We have a lot of vegan options here. There's pizza, cafes like this, you know Vedge or V Street are finer dining stuff, but the one thing we didn't' have was vegan donuts, like fresh made daily," added Jeff.

They started Dottie's Donuts about a year ago and began devoting full time to the venture in November. Already, they have more than 2 dozen cafes that buy and sell their vegan confections.

"We blew up really fast," says Jeff.

The duo plan to open up a Dottie's Donuts cafe this spring in the 46th & Springfield location, where they make them.
