Bacterial meningitis case confirmed in Cheltenham Township School District

The Cheltenham School District said on Friday it learned about a case of bacterial meningitis.

CHELTENHAM TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- The Cheltenham Township School District said on Friday it learned about a case of bacterial meningitis.

Officials said they learned the news from the Montgomery County Health Department.

The health department and school district are releasing very few details citing privacy laws.

However, the department did release the following statement on Friday that reads in part:

"We can confirm there is a case of bacterial meningitis associated with a student who belongs to Cheltenham School District, but this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the school community."

"We are going to have school on Monday, and run with our programs as regularly scheduled," said Director of Communications Susan O'Grady.

Action News learned about the case from a tip caller who said she and other parents are upset more details are not being released including what school the student attended, his or her condition or when he or she may have contracted meningitis.
