Mother starts fundraising campaign for son who lacks ability to smile
The smile is one of humanity's defining features. It lifts people from bad moods. It shows your joy or contentment. It's a unifying symbol across the world, a facial display that breaks any language or cultural barrier.
We certainly enjoy smiling, but there's one five-year-old child who hasn't been able to show his big grin yet. Maddox Perales of Marietta, GA has a neurological disorder called Moebius Syndrome. The condition effects the facial muscles, making it difficult in the past for Maddox to talk, feed himself and even has impacted his eyesight. While his mother Danielle Templer has taken Maddox to several speech and physical therapists, he's still been left with the inability to smile.
Maddox can manually lift his cheeks with his hands to simulate a smile, but Danielle is striving to see that her son doesn't have to go through life never being able to show his cheery grin. The mother started an online fundraising campaign to raise money for a surgery to treat his facial paralysis. The campaign is still far from its $100,000 goal, but every donation makes Maddox's smile that much more of a reality.
