Fitness Friday: Workout with your kids on the playground
Fitness Friday: Workout with your kids on the playground - Registered Nurse Ali Gorman reports during Action News at 5 p.m. on July 7, 2017.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- For parents who feel short on time, moving your gym to the jungle gym can help you squeeze in a workout and spend time with your kids.

Danielle O'Driscoll and her daughter 6-year-old Mariella are getting their exercise.

For Mariella, this is one of her favorite playgrounds.

"I like that there's a perfect amount of things for little kids and for big kids," she said.

And Robert Catalini says playgrounds don't have to be just for kids. He's the is manager of the health and fitness center for Holy Redeemer Hospital.

"Rather than just having your children out here playing, you can kind of play yourself and at the same time you're getting a workout," he said.

He says box jumps with your kids are good for cardio and he showed me and Danielle some strength moves.

You can do modified pushups on a bench, dips to work your triceps and squats to hit your lower body.

Then, head over the monkey bars for a full body pull-up.

Cycle through 10 to 12 repetitions of each move, for two to three cycles and add some extras if your kids will to join you. For Danielle, it's a great way to fit in fitness.

"It it's a nice enough day to come out with your family, then you may as well take advantage for yourself and get moving," she said.

And you can get a good workout in in just 15 to 20 minutes.

Playground Fitness Circuit:

- Box jumps (Or bring a jump rope and jump 50 to 100 times)

- Lunges (one foot on elevated platform)

- Modified push-ups off the back of a bench

- Tricep dips off the front of a bench

- Squats

- Plank Pull-up (on monkey bars)

Complete 10 to 12 repetitions of each exercise for 2-3 cycles
