Gloucester County fighting mosquitoes with fish

Officials in Gloucester County, New Jersey are taking a proactive step to control mosquitoes.

On Tuesday, they started releasing 10,000 mosquito-eating fish into retention basins and other non-moving bodies of water.

This is the tenth year they've been doing this.

They say it's even more important this year due to the potential threat of Zika virus.

The fish are very effective at getting rid of mosquito larvae.

"They're voracious eaters. They will eat until they can eat no more," Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert Damminger said.

Along with Zika, the fish also help protect against West Nile Virus.
