NORTHERN LIBERTIES (WPVI) -- Brazen Boxing and MMA in Northern Liberties has started teaching women to protect themselves with self-defense moves.

The ladies-only classes are held every Sunday. Even better? They're completely free!

At the free Sunday grappling class, co-owner Jason Sargus teaches some simple tricks.

Sargus tells us, "You're learning basics of self-defense, basics of jujitsu."

Sargus believes every woman should know how to defend herself.

"When someone grabs you ... and they have a strong grip, people tend to want to pull back, which pulls the assailant into you ... not a great idea," he explained.

The trick, he says, is to set yourself free. And those techniques are taught during class.

Once you learn the moves, he says practice, practice, practice.

Brazen Boxing trains everyone from professional fighters to doctors, lawyers and even kids. Sargus says you get the added bonus of a fantastic workout. (:09)

"You're engaging the core. You're moving 5, 6, 7 minute rounds ... A lot of calories burned," he says.

And he says once you're trained in martial arts, you're less likely to even be a target.

Fun Fact: Jason Sargus trained with UFC title holder Randy Couture, who is now moving his feet in a different way on Dancing with the Stars.
