Looking to curb sugar overload on the sweetest holiday of the year? There are some healthier options for Halloween.

Giving out pre-packaged trail mix will help provide some protein. And, of course, there are non-food options too: stickers, temporary tattoos and glow sticks. Those are also good for kids with food allergies.

And you can hand out something to keep trick-or-treaters hydrated, like favored water. It might help them eat less candy.

After the holiday, if you don't want your kids eating candy for days on end, there are local organizations that collect candy to send to military troops. Some have a buy-back program.
