Report: One in five Americans still using tobacco products
Report: One in five Americans still using tobacco products - Ali Gorman reports during Action News at 5pm on November 9, 2017.

There has been a lot of work and a lot progress in helping more people quit smoking, but despite that, a new government report estimates about one in five adults are still using tobacco products.

The smoking rate hasn't changed much over the past few years.

The director of the CDC says it's the nation's leading preventable cause of death and disease.

The results of this recent survey make it clear more action is needed.

Recently, registered nurse, Ali Gorman, hosted a Facebook live chat to talk about the upcoming Great American Smokeout.

It's a day smokers are challenged to not smoke and to set a long-term quit date and plan of action.

The video has resources to help and also a very inspirational story from a local woman who shares how she kicked the habit after 40 years.

The Great American Smokeout is November 16th.
