Researchers using blood test for Alzheimer's disease

Doctors are getting closer to having a simple blood test for Alzheimer's disease.

A test is being developed at a British University, but it's getting attention in the U.S. from the National Academy of Sciences.

Researchers say it's up to 86% accurate in detecting Alzheimer's disease.

And it can differentiate between Alzheimer's and other kinds of dementia.

It uses light passing through a diamond to reveal chemical bonds in the blood. Those bonds show traces of degenerative brain disease.

Right now, Alzheimer's is diagnosed by brain scans and mental testing, but can only be confirmed with an autopsy after someone dies.
