First, when it comes to health clubs and gyms, experts say many of them have a monthly membership quota and if you wait until the end of the month, you could see some pretty great last-minute deals.

Consumer Reports also recommends calling several gyms and asking for a trial run.

Most of them will let you try out their facility for days, even weeks without paying a penny.

Don't forget to search social media for exclusive coupons.

And before you sign any contract, do a little negotiation. See if they will lower your monthly rate if you pay for a year or even half of a year up front.

Finally, go with a group. Many facilities will lower the rates for large groups. Ask friends, family members and even co-workers.
