Type 2 diabetes, strokes, and heart attacks affect millions of Americans.

Type 2 diabetes, strokes, and heart attacks affect millions of Americans.

A new study shows if you have at least two out of three of these conditions by age 60, it can cut your life expectancy by 12 to 13 years.

By comparison, smoking is said to reduce a person's life span by 10 years, HIV by about 11 years.

But the good news is there are things you can do to lower your risk.

If you have diabetes, managing your blood sugar and weight will help.

If you have heart disease, managing your blood pressure, cholesterol and weight will also help.

It all comes down to making healthy choices most of the time.
