Tetanus concerns after Harvey
Tetanus concerns after Harvey. Ali Gorman reports during Action News at 5 p.m. on September 5, 2017.

A new health concern has come up in Texas.

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, there's a significant risk of tetanus from contaminated flood waters and mud.

Several neighborhood associations are offering free booster shots, and people are lining up to get them.

People going into the water with a cut, or who got a cut going through the water, are at risk.

Some residents took advantage of the vaccinations.

All adults should have a booster shot of the tetanus vaccine every 10 years, but many people are not up to date.

The Texas Health Department is sending extra supplies of the vaccine to the flood area.
