PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The City of Philadelphia and Conrail announced a deal Wednesday to extend the Schuylkill River Trail into Southwest Philadelphia.

The city recently acquired an historic swing bridge on the Schuylkill River owned by Conrail.

It will be refurbished and renamed Conrail Crossing.

The new bridge will connect the Grays Ferry Crescent Trail to the Bartram's Mile section of the Schuylkill River Trail.

Construction is scheduled to begin next year.
