PEMBROKE, Florida (WPVI) -- A homeless veteran in Florida used his military training to help victims of a car crash.

WPLG-TV reports, Travis Wilson says he was a US Navy corpsman, who fell on hard times and is now homeless.

He says he was applying for housing with the organization Operation Sacred Trust in Pembroke on Thursday, when he heard the crash.

Wilson ran to the scene and reached into the mangled car to help the man inside.

"You can't leave the scene," he said. "I can't leave the scene - it doesn't matter if the vehicle catches on fire. It doesn't matter. I'm there with him. If we're gonna die, we're gonna die together."

Wilson held a man's neck in place until paramedics arrived.
