1 critical after driver loses control, crashes into Northeast Philadelphia porch

Police believe alcohol played a role in this crash.

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- One person is critical after an overnight crash in Northeast Philadelphia.

The accident happened shortly before 3:00 a.m. Sunday on the 700 block of Knorr Street.

Police say the driver, a male in his 20s, was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle.

The vehicle struck a tree before plowing into a front porch column and then landing on its roof in the front lawn of a home.

No one inside that house was injured.

Firefighters worked to free both the driver and his female passenger from the mangled car.

The passenger suffered a fractured spine and foot. She is listed in critical condition at Einstein Medical Center.

The driver is listed in stable condition.

Police say they did smell an odor of alcohol coming from the driver.
