WILKINSBURG, Pa. -- Seven Pittsburgh firefighters were injured while fighting a house fire Friday morning, including one who burned his hands while rescuing an 86-year-old woman.
Some of the firefighters jumped from the burning two-story home as the fire intensified. Pittsburgh public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler says they had to "jump for their lives." Two of the injured firefighters suffered fractured bones. A total of three firefighters were admitted to the hospital.
The rescued woman was hospitalized in stable condition.
The blaze in neighboring Wilkinsburg was reported just after 9 a.m. Pittsburgh firefighters cover the borough under contract.
