READING, Pa. (WPVI) -- Berks County officials are investigating after a high school was vandalized.

During the weekend, police said someone painted lewd and hateful messages on the exterior walls of Berks Catholic High School in Reading, Pennsylvania.

A statue of the Virgin Mary was also desecrated, police said.

Crews spent hours cleaning up the school, police said. Some areas of the building had to be repainted.

Students return to school on Monday.
